House Of Sui Sui - The Tea House

Project Description:

The Tea House project is a remarkable fusion of Indian and Japanese aesthetics inspired by the clients’ cultural heritage and love for tea rituals. The design, led by Melissa Bolivar of House of Sui Sui Interiors, transformed a former artist’s studio in Central London into a contemporary home filled with character.

Original features like subway tiles and double-height ceilings were preserved, while new elements, including bespoke joinery and de Gournay artwork, seamlessly integrate the opulence of Indian traditions with the minimalism of Japanese design. The result is a space that embodies love, culture, and timeless beauty, blending bold colours and natural materials to create a serene yet dynamic environment.

The Shoot:

I absolutely loved shooting this project with Melissa. It was one of my favourite projects aesthetically, and the entire shoot was completed in one day. We were fortunate to have beautiful natural light, with the morning sun bringing a soft warmth into the space. Projects like this, where interior design interacts closely with the existing architectural structure, offer a great opportunity to explore both form and atmosphere.

I worked primarily with natural light, introducing subtle additive fill where needed to highlight depth, minimise reflections, and maintain clarity across the compositions. The goal was to enhance the richness of textures and materials without losing the natural feel of the space.

Post-production focused on seamlessly blending light layers and refining the overall balance, resulting in a set of images that capture the character and intent of the design. The final imagery reflects a more expressive side of interior photography, aligned with my work as a London interiors photographer across residential projects.
