Gensler - CamLIFE Cambridge
Project Description:
Designed by Gensler, the CamLIFE workplace in Cambridge represents a forward-thinking approach to office design, combining functionality with a refined, contemporary aesthetic. The space is centred around expansive volumes and a striking atrium, allowing natural light to flow deep into the interior and define the overall atmosphere.
A carefully balanced material palette and considered spatial planning create a workplace that feels both open and structured, supporting collaboration while maintaining moments of calm and focus. The design reflects a modern understanding of how people interact with their environment, resulting in a space that is both efficient and visually engaging.
The Shoot:
This project marked another collaboration with the Gensler team, always a pleasure to work with. There is a strong sense of trust and alignment in the process, which allows us to move efficiently and achieve a refined result through close on-site collaboration. Working alongside the lead designers, we approached the shoot with a clear vision and a shared attention to detail.
The project was photographed in two stages as the space progressed towards completion, with the first shoot in October and the second in January. This allowed us to capture key moments while maintaining a consistent visual approach across both sessions. Cambridge provided a beautiful setting, and the architecture itself was a joy to photograph, particularly the large open volumes and atrium spaces where natural light played a defining role. Approaching spaces like this requires flexibility, especially when balancing natural and supplemental lighting. In areas with limited daylight, I introduced additional lighting to maintain clarity and consistency.
We photographed the space both with and without people, often working with members of the Gensler team as models. While both versions were delivered, I chose to present the imagery without people to place full emphasis on the design. Moments of sunlight breaking through added warmth and softness to the interiors, particularly during the winter months. Post-production focused on creating a consistent colour grade, refining the light balance, and removing minor distractions to achieve a clean, polished result, as part of my wider interior photography portfolio in London.
