Jean Nouvel - Louvre Abu Dhabi

Project Description:

Louvre Abu Dhabi, designed by architect Jean Nouvel, is a striking blend of modern innovation and traditional Arabic architectural elements. The museum's centrepiece is a massive floating dome featuring a geometric pattern of 7,850 stars, creating a captivating "rain of light" effect as sunlight filters through. The dome provides aesthetic beauty and practical functions, such as shading the outdoor spaces and reducing energy consumption. Surrounded by water, the museum resembles a serene city in the sea, offering visitors an immersive experience that harmonizes art, nature, and architecture.

The Shoot:

This personal project was inspired by the incredible architecture of the Louvre Abu Dhabi and the desire to challenge me in capturing such a large-scale, modern space. I booked a working holiday to create portfolio images that reflect the projects I dream of being commissioned for. Shooting over two days, I navigated the crowds to capture the museum as empty and serene as possible, using strategic timing and blending multiple shots to erase distractions. The changing weather added another challenge, especially in capturing the stunning "rain of light" effect through the dome. The experience pushed me creatively, and I’m proud of the fine art and polished feel I achieved in the final images. It was a rewarding project that strengthened my skills in shooting and post-production for large architectural works, and I encourage other photographers to pursue personal projects that inspire them.
