TO Design Studio - Le Fou | Vienna

Project Description:

Le Fou, designed by TO Design Studio and located within The Leo Grand hotel in Vienna’s 1st District, is an immersive cocktail bar that channels the opulence and theatricality of the French Belle Époque. The space introduces a distinctive Parisian sensibility to the city, combining layered detailing with a bold, expressive aesthetic.

The interior unfolds through a series of distinct zones, each with its own character yet unified by a rich, cohesive visual language. From the gold-toned lounge to the velvet-heavy main room and the more intimate, secluded areas, the design creates a sense of discovery and progression.

Hand-painted silk wallpapers, bespoke floor mosaics, and carefully curated materials bring depth and intricacy to every surface. The palette is rich and indulgent, with a strong emphasis on texture, colour, and atmosphere. The result is a space that feels both decadent and refined, designed to offer an elevated and memorable experience that evolves throughout the evening.

The Shoot:

This was a stunning project to be part of, and another great collaboration with one of my favourite interior designers. I spent several days in Vienna around the shoot, combining the project with time in the city, which made the experience even more rewarding.

The shoot itself took place over one day, focusing on capturing the richness and complexity of the design. With so many layers, materials, and carefully considered details, the approach required precision and control to ensure nothing was lost in the final images.

I used extensive flash lighting throughout to shape the scenes and bring out the full depth of textures, colours, and finishes. This was essential to accurately conveying the atmosphere of the space, especially in a setting where mood and lighting play such a central role in the overall experience.

Post-production brought everything together into a cohesive and polished visual set. Careful colour grading ensured that the richness of the palette remained true to the design, while maintaining balance and clarity across all images. The final result captures the essence of a world-class bar, reflecting both the design's craftsmanship and the immersive atmosphere it creates.
