Fare-Inc. - Kolamba Restaurant
Project Description:
Kolamba East, located in London’s Spitalfields, offers a refined take on the design of the brand’s first site in Soho. The interiors blend rough plaster, industrial brickwork, and tropical timbers, creating a warm and inviting space. A central feature is the bustling bar, framed by an Oasis Green marble floor, adding an elevated touch to the design.
Elements of Sri Lankan culture, such as batik fabrics and handcrafted furniture, are seamlessly integrated, creating a space that honours both tradition and modern design.
The Shoot:
Working with the Fare-Inc team on this project was a fantastic experience. Despite challenges such as the late arrival of dining chairs and shooting during the restaurant’s soft-opening preparations, we remained efficient and strategic with the schedule. Projects like this, where restaurant interiors are closely tied to architectural detailing, require flexibility and quick on-site decision-making.
The moody lighting and rich material palette were central to the space, so I used a combination of practical and supplemental lighting to shape the scenes and retain that atmosphere. The aim was to keep the depth and character of the design while ensuring the images remained clear and well-balanced.
In post-production, the focus was on enhancing layered lighting and bringing out textures without losing the space's natural feel. The final images highlight the restaurant’s identity and atmosphere, reflecting my approach to interior photography in London across hospitality and design-led projects.
