ArcSet - Jul’s London

Project Description:

Jul’s, designed by Arc Set, is a richly layered restaurant and bar in London, where atmosphere, detail, and spatial experience come together to create a highly immersive environment. Set across multiple levels, including a restaurant, bar, and mezzanine, the space unfolds through a sequence of carefully composed interiors, each with its own distinct identity while remaining visually cohesive.

A warm, expressive palette defines the project, with textured surfaces, bespoke finishes, and intricate detailing contributing to a sense of depth and character. Lighting plays a central role in shaping the experience, enhancing the mood, and creating a dynamic interplay between shadows and highlights. The result is a space that feels both intimate and vibrant, designed to evolve throughout the day and come fully to life in the evening.

The Shoot:

This was a two-day shoot under a tight, demanding timeline, covering three floors and the exterior. The project was still in its final stages of completion, which meant working alongside ongoing snagging, lighting adjustments, sound checks, and final styling as they came together in real time. One moment, the space would be perfectly staged, the next, it would be full of activity as teams worked to prepare for opening.

Despite the challenges, it was an incredibly rewarding project to be part of. The level of detail and design intent was clear throughout, and it was exciting to capture a space with such a strong identity.

Lighting was key to accurately conveying the atmosphere. I used multiple flash layers to build depth and bring the interiors closer to how they feel in reality, especially in balancing the warm ambient lighting, which can otherwise appear flat on camera. Each scene required careful shaping to retain richness while keeping clarity and structure.

Alongside the photography, we also dedicated time to capturing video content for social media and website use, adding another dimension to the project’s visual presence.

Post-production was where everything came together. Blending the light layers, refining colour, and enhancing contrast allowed the final images to reflect the true mood of the space. The aim was always to recreate the experience of being there, not just document it.

Following the shoot, I had the opportunity to attend the soft opening and experience the space as a guest. It completely transforms in the evening, with the lighting, atmosphere, and energy coming together in a way that is both immersive and memorable. A great project, a challenging shoot, and ultimately a very rewarding result.
