Covet Noir - Dulwich Residence

Project Description:

This modern, accessible home in Dulwich, designed by Covet Noir in collaboration with Takero Shimazaki Architects, seamlessly blends functionality with a warm, Japanese-inspired aesthetic. Crafted around three internal courtyards, the house maximizes natural light while maintaining open, easy-to-navigate spaces.

The design features a palette of glass, stone, timber, and lime plaster, complemented by organic materials and soft, natural tones to enhance the indoor-outdoor connection. Bespoke elements, such as a custom vanity and handcrafted furniture, highlight the home’s emphasis on craftsmanship, comfort, and accessibility without compromising style.

The Shoot:

Shooting this project with Covet Noir was an incredibly rewarding experience, as the architecture and interior design aligned closely with my own visual approach. Projects like this, where spatial planning and architectural intent are so clearly defined, allow for a more intuitive and fluid way of working on site.

I primarily used natural light to capture the space, allowing the calm palette and materiality to come through naturally. In areas such as the bathrooms, I introduced subtle supplemental lighting to maintain consistency and ensure a soft, balanced feel throughout the set. The sunny conditions played a key role, helping to bring out the connection between the interiors and the surrounding courtyards.

Post-production focused on maintaining that clarity, with careful attention to colour balance, light control, and the preservation of depth across each image. The final result reflects a clean, considered approach to interior photography, consistent with my work as a London-based interiors photographer across residential and architectural projects.
