Bergman Design House | AXIOUS Superyacht

Project Description:

Following an extensive refit, Axios emerges as a sophisticated expression of contemporary living at sea, designed by Bergman Design House with a focus on warmth, tranquillity, and understated luxury. The interiors embrace a softer approach to yacht design, where natural textures, organic forms, and a restrained palette create an atmosphere of effortless elegance.

Throughout the yacht, expansive glazing and reflective surfaces establish a constant dialogue with the surrounding seascape, allowing light, horizon, and ocean views to become integral elements of the experience. The design balances refinement with comfort, offering immersive spaces that encourage a slower, more considered pace of life on the water.

The exterior areas extend this philosophy, with generous decks and inviting lounge spaces designed to maximise the connection to the sea. Every detail has been thoughtfully considered, resulting in a yacht that feels both sophisticated and deeply relaxing. Axios is a beautiful example of how exceptional design can elevate life at sea into something truly memorable.

The Shoot:

Photographing Axios was one of the most memorable and rewarding projects I have had the opportunity to work on. Travelling to Athens alongside the Bergman Design House team, we spent our days immersed in the unique rhythm of life at sea, capturing the yacht while constantly moving through changing landscapes and conditions.

Timing and weather played a crucial role throughout the shoot. We were fortunate to have just enough favourable conditions, particularly for the exterior photography, where sunlight was essential in bringing the outdoor spaces to life. One of the most exciting aspects of photographing a yacht is the ability to work closely with the captain and crew to reposition the vessel, adapting to the changing light, views, and reflections around us. It genuinely feels as though the entire environment becomes part of the creative process, with the scenery constantly evolving as each frame comes together.

The crew were exceptional throughout, helping create an effortless experience and making even the brief moments between shooting memorable. Enjoying a coffee break surrounded by endless sea views offered a unique reminder of just how immersive life aboard a yacht can be.

The interiors were photographed using supplemental lighting to carefully shape each space and reveal the full depth of textures, materials, and details. I aimed to recreate the experience of being there in person, allowing the spaces to feel calm, immersive, and subtly theatrical without losing their authenticity. The final images combine natural light with controlled flash to achieve a refined and balanced result.

Post-production played a vital role in bringing everything together. Careful blending of light layers, colour refinement, and tonal balancing ensured that the final imagery captured both the atmosphere of the yacht and the beauty of its design. The project has since been widely published and celebrated as a successful example of contemporary yacht design.

This remains one of my all-time favourite projects. Working with Bergman Design House is always an exciting experience, defined by creativity, trust, and an ambitious approach to bringing exceptional design to life. Photographing superyachts continues to be one of the most rewarding aspects of my work, combining technical precision with adventure, collaboration, and the ever-changing beauty of the sea.
