Fare-Inc - Visum Mundi Cinema

Project Description:

Housed in a historic 1935 building, Visum Mundi is a boutique cinema that blends heritage, sustainability, and contemporary design. Designed by Fare Inc., the space features a 119-seat theatre upstairs and a stylish bar/lounge below.

The interiors pay homage to the past with a palette of military greens and warm wood tones. Dandelion chandeliers and vintage furnishings add a nostalgic yet elegant touch. A horseshoe-shaped bar with backlit steel panels nods to the glamour of classic cinemas, seamlessly merging old and new.

Visum Mundi is more than a cinema; it is a thoughtfully designed cultural hub that honours history while offering a refined, immersive experience.

The Shoot:

Working with the Fare Inc. team was a pleasure; they’re incredibly talented and great to collaborate with. The shoot itself was a quick but memorable trip, flying into Amsterdam before travelling on to Wageningen, where I stayed overnight in a historic hotel next to the cinema. Spending a full day on site allowed enough time to properly explore and document the space. Projects like this, where interior and architectural elements are closely intertwined, benefit from that level of focus and immersion.

Lighting became the main challenge, especially with the dark winter conditions. I used artificial light carefully to enhance the interior elements and bring out the richness of the materials without losing the atmosphere. The goal was to maintain the cinematic quality of the space while ensuring the images remained clear and balanced.

Post-production focused on reinforcing that mood, keeping the tones warm, slightly moody, and consistent across the set. The final images reflect the character of the cinema and its layered design, approached through an interior photography style that sits between architectural and hospitality work.
